Gombe Police rescue abducted 8-year-old boy, arrest four

The body of Enoch Sunday Maisamari, a 200-level Microbiology student, was recovered from stagnant water days after he was last seen at a university graduation celebration in Gombe State

A 28-year-old Federal University of Kashere student, Enoch Sunday Maisamari, has been found dead days after he disappeared following a graduation party organised by final-year students at the university in Gombe State.

The 200-level Microbiology student was reportedly recovered from a stagnant water body in Sabon Garin Yero Village, near Kashere town, Akko Local Government Area, after he was last seen at the celebration on Sunday.

Maisamari, who hailed from Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State, had reportedly been missing since the event, prompting concern among his coursemates and those close to him.

According to a witness cited by Daily Trust, police officers found his body on Tuesday morning before contacting the university authorities. One of Maisamari’s coursemates later identified the deceased.

The Gombe State Police Command subsequently confirmed the recovery, saying it received a report on Wednesday at about 9:30 a.m. concerning the discovery of a lifeless body in the stagnant water in Sabon Garin Yero Village.

The body was evacuated to General Hospital, Kashere, where medical personnel certified Maisamari dead.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said no visible marks of violence were observed on the body, although investigators had yet to establish exactly how the student died.

“No visible marks of violence were observed on the body. But investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Abdullahi said.

The recovery has left Maisamari’s university community facing a deeply distressing turn of events, coming only days after the student was reportedly seen at a celebration marking the academic milestone of final-year students.

The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent death remain unclear.

Police have not indicated whether the stagnant water body was the direct cause of death or whether other factors may have been involved.

For now, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the final movements of the Microbiology student and determine what happened between the time he was last seen at the graduation party and the discovery of his body.

The case has also renewed attention on the importance of establishing the circumstances surrounding unexplained deaths, particularly where there are no immediate visible signs of violence.

Until the police investigation is concluded, the precise cause and manner of Maisamari’s death remain undetermined.
