FUOYE extortion allegations lead to the suspension of two staff members and the SUG President as the university intensifies its anti-corruption drive

The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended a director, a deputy dean and the institution’s Students’ Union Government President, Mr James Iyanuoluwa, over alleged involvement in the extortion of students.

The disciplinary action marks a significant development in the university’s ongoing campaign against corruption and unethical practices within the institution.

FUOYE management said the suspensions followed allegations linking the affected officials to activities involving the extortion of students.

The university did not immediately disclose further details of the allegations or the duration of the suspensions.

The move represents the first major sanctions under the institution’s renewed anti-corruption drive, which university authorities say is aimed at promoting transparency, accountability and ethical conduct across the campus community.

University officials indicated that investigations into the matter are continuing and that appropriate measures would be taken based on the outcome of the process.

The suspension of the Students’ Union Government President has also attracted attention among students, given the representative role of the office in championing student welfare and interests.

Observers described the action as a bold step in addressing concerns over misconduct and reinforcing confidence in the university’s commitment to institutional integrity.

FUOYE has repeatedly emphasised its determination to curb practices that undermine academic standards and student welfare, with the latest development signalling a tougher stance against alleged wrongdoing.
