FUP Pankshin convicts two men in certificate forgery syndicate, recovering fake results and stamps to protect academic integrity

The Federal University of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State, has uncovered a criminal syndicate involved in forging and issuing fake academic results and certificates, leading to the imprisonment of two men.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Jere Ndazhaga disclosed the development at a press conference in Jos on Monday, saying the convicts, Friday Tunkyes and Harvey Obed Ringsum, were each sentenced to one and a half years’ imprisonment.

The investigation began when a suspicious certificate was presented at the university’s Examinations and Records Section, prompting staff to detect inconsistencies. The matter was escalated to the University Security Unit and subsequently reported to the State Intelligence Department on November 17, 2025.

Ndazhaga explained that undercover operations led to the arrest of Friday Tunkyes of Mikang Local Government Area on November 18, followed by Harvey Obed Ringsum of Mangu Local Government Area on November 19. Numerous forged certificates and official emboss stamps were recovered during the operations.

“Subsequent investigations, arraignment, and legal proceedings resulted in the conviction of both suspects,” the VC said, noting that they are currently serving their sentences at a Correctional Centre.

The Vice-Chancellor described the syndicate’s activities as “disturbing and unacceptable,” emphasising that the university is committed to producing graduates of integrity. He warned organisations and employers to verify certificates claimed to have been issued by FUP Pankshin.

“This action is intended to serve as a strong deterrent to others who may contemplate similar criminal acts,” Ndazhaga said.

He urged the public to report suspicious activities that undermine education, adding: “Together, we can protect the credibility of our institutions and contribute meaningfully to national development.”

Highlighting the institution’s mission, the Acting VC stated, “The motto of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin is ‘EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE.’ Every genuine certificate issued by this institution represents years of rigorous academic training, character formation, and integrity.”

Ndazhaga reaffirmed that the university will not tolerate any act capable of tarnishing its image or undermining the value of education, stressing its commitment to becoming a top-tier centre of academic excellence.
