Ga Mantse orders suspension of planned Igbo Yam Festival in Accra, halting event organised by Igbo leader HRM Eze Dr Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu

The festival, organised by Igbo leader, HRM Eze Dr Amb Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, was expected to draw participation from members of the Igbo community and cultural enthusiasts across Ghana.

However, the Ga Traditional Council, under the authority of the Ga Mantse, intervened to halt the celebration.

Although no detailed reasons were immediately provided, the suspension underscores the Ga Mantse’s authority over cultural and traditional events within the capital.

The directive effectively stops the festival from proceeding as planned.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions within Accra’s multicultural community, with some viewing the suspension as an assertion of traditional protocols, while others have expressed concern about its impact on cultural harmony and inter-ethnic relations.

Further clarification from the Ga Traditional Council is expected in the coming days as discussions continue between the Igbo leadership and Ga authorities.
