The residents described the intervention as a turning point in the decades-old conflict, which has placed thousands of families under threat of eviction linked to disputed land around the Sappers Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
In a letter of appreciation signed by His Royal Highness Oba Jimson Owode Oyelaja, the Alapunren of Apunren-Ijebu, the community said the senator provided a voice for them at a time when their appeals appeared ignored.
The Gbenga Daniel land dispute intervention was credited with restoring hope and reopening dialogue between affected communities and relevant authorities after years of tension.
According to the letter, Senator Daniel not only identified with the plight of residents but also facilitated engagement through the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, which helped bring national attention to the matter.
Community leaders said the intervention led to mediation sessions involving military representatives and local stakeholders, easing tensions and halting further demolition activities in affected areas.
Senior military officials, including representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, were said to have participated in the dialogue process, signalling openness to a negotiated resolution.
Residents described earlier phases of the dispute as deeply distressing, with fears of displacement affecting housing, education, and livelihoods across multiple communities.
The community also praised Daniel’s commitment despite his national legislative responsibilities, describing him as responsive and deeply connected to grassroots concerns.
They added that the renewed engagement had restored confidence in the possibility of a lasting resolution to the land de-acquisition dispute.
While expressing gratitude, the residents urged the senator to sustain efforts until a final settlement is reached, allowing affected families to regain stability and peace.
