Considering the fact that 17% of the world’s adult population are illiterates, it’s therefore commendable that a massive organisation like rotary, with over 35,000 member clubs around the world and 1.2million members, would bring its focus to this subject every September of every other year.

Designated as Basic Education and Literacy Month, in September, member clubs in over 200 countries are charged to carry out activities and projects that touches on education and improve literacy, with the goal of strengthening the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy, and most importantly support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.
