Gombe police ammunition cache discovery sees officers recover 119 rounds of live ammo hidden near a cemetery in Yamaltu Deba LGA

The Gombe State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the discovery of a cache of live ammunition concealed near a cemetery along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area, in what authorities described as a suspicious and potentially dangerous find.

Ammunition cache discovered by Gombe police was announced in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Buhari Abdullahi, who said operatives acted on credible intelligence received at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday regarding a concealed bag under a tree.

According to DSP Abdullahi, officers recovered 119 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition hidden inside a sack during the operation.

The items were reportedly found near a cemetery, raising immediate security concerns among local residents and law enforcement officials.

Additional items recovered at the scene included two empty ammunition sacks, two bottles containing moringa seeds and a green bag, suggesting attempts to disguise or conceal the illegal cache.

Security operatives subsequently combed nearby bushes and surrounding areas in search of suspects, but no arrests were made at the time of the operation.

DSP Abdullahi stated that the command has intensified surveillance and patrols within the area as investigations continue to identify those responsible for hiding the ammunition.

He described the development as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms movement and maintain public safety across the state.

Authorities have assured residents that security agencies are working diligently to uncover the network behind the concealed ammunition, amid growing concerns over illicit weapons circulation in parts of the region.
