Governor Adeleke and First Lady Tinubu shared a warm, playful exchange at the Ooni’s 10th coronation, reflecting their longstanding friendship

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and First Lady of Nigeria, Chief Mrs Oluremi Tinubu CON, shared a warm and light-hearted exchange during the 10th coronation anniversary of His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, in the House of Oduduwa on Sunday, December 7.

The event also saw the First Lady honoured with the title ‘Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo ile Oodua’ in recognition of her contributions to Yoruba culture and heritage.

Arriving via helicopter, Chief Tinubu attended the celebration despite it being a Sunday, citing her deep respect for the Ooni and commitment to promoting Yoruba traditions.

The First Lady requested the ceremony be concise to return to Abuja before nightfall, a move dictated by logistical constraints.

Eyewitnesses at the event, including Princess Toyin Kolade who was seated on stage, noted that the interaction between Governor Adeleke and the First Lady was cordial and humorous. Both leaders have a longstanding friendship dating back to their tenure as colleagues in the 8th Senate.

Their rapport was evident in shared laughter, playful banter, and Adeleke’s signature humorous gestures.

Contrary to online speculation portraying tension, the encounter was a display of camaraderie rather than a power struggle.

Governor Adeleke, initially unaware of the First Lady’s flight schedule, engaged in light-hearted performances while she gently reminded him to adhere to the ceremony’s timetable.

The event was further marked by the First Lady’s recognition for her contributions to the Yoruba community, highlighting her dedication to cultural preservation and philanthropy.

Observers emphasised that misinterpretations circulating on social media do not reflect the true nature of their relationship, which is grounded in mutual respect and longstanding friendship.
