GOVERNOR DAPO ABIODUN AND THE “A O M’ERIN JỌBA, ẸWẸKU-ẸWẸLẸ” FOLKLORIC SONG

As Governor Dapo Abiodun’s tenure winds down, his public attention has shifted from Governance to an increasingly conspicuous ambition, his extraordinary aggressiveness and the full determination to push for the Ogun East Senatorial seat, even if it calls for bloodshed.

For many citizens, this move raises uneasy questions about priorities, legacy, and accountability. Leadership, at its core, demands reflection at the twilight of service, not a hurried escape route from unresolved burdens. The optics suggest not continuity of service, but a quest for refuge from mounting scrutiny.

Governor Dapo’s records of administration remains a subject of widespread dissatisfaction, with critics pointing to underwhelming delivery and glaring developmental gaps.

Allegations surrounding his questionable academic credentials, compounded by an unconvincing public defense when challenged by the popular Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV, was a show of shame and have further eroded public confidence in his integrity. In public life, credibility is currency; once diminished, it casts a long shadow over every ambition. A leader seeking higher office must first reconcile with the moral weight of such accusations.

Beyond performance concerns, financial stewardship under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s watch in Ogun State, has drawn sharp criticism, with claims of recklessness and opaque projects lacking tangible impact.

The much-publicized Gateway Airport project, instead of symbolizing progress, has become a lightning rod for suspicion and debate.

Whispers of looming investigations have only intensified perceptions that the Senatorial bid may be less about service and more about self-preservation at the red Chamber. Such a narrative, whether fair or not, is damaging to both his person and the democratic process.

In Yoruba folklore, the tale behind the song “A o m’erin j’ọba, ẹwẹku-ẹwẹlẹ” meaning; ” We shall crown the Elephant “, offers a timeless warning: the mighty Elephant, swayed by flattery, falls victim to the cunning tortoise and met an avoidable end.

Governor Dapo Abiodun must heed this lesson, his ambition fueled by sycophancy and hypocrite may likely lead to downfall, not glory.

Surrounded by voices that echo his praises without telling him the blantant truth, he risks dancing toward a political pit. Wisdom lies not in the noise of applause, but in the courage to pause, reflect, and choose a path of dignity over desperation.

His desperation, with full of antics and grandstanding, all for the Ogun East Senatorial ticket is uncalled-for.

To the National and Ogun State leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) and the teeming members in Ogun East Senatorial District, allowing someone of Governor Dapo Abiodun to leave the Governor’s office with a bag full of unresolved public issues on his shoulders and to contest the Senatorial seat, speaks volumes of the integrity and the dignity of the party.

For Governor Dapo, please remember the folkloric song and the chorus:

“A o m’erin j’ọba,
Ẹwẹku-Ẹwẹlẹ……”
