Nollywood actress Damola Olatunji has been released on bail by a Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos State.
The Nollywood star was charged with public inciting and assaulting police officers by the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday.
Olatunji had gone live on Instagram on Monday to reveal the faces of the officers who had reportedly abused him and his Personal Assistant, Timileyin Salawu, by taking their phones.
According to the actor, the event occurred in Lagos State’s Abule-Egba neighborhood. Olatunji alleged that the officers confiscated his phone and slammed his PA as he was recording them.
He also accused the cops of extorting “hard-earned money” from citizens. The actor added that there were good policemen in Nigeria but the ones he encountered were the bad ones.
Olatunji and Salawu were arrested and imprisoned at Area P Police Command shortly after the video went viral, where they spent the night.
Lanre Adediwura, a filmmaker and actor, said Olatunji was transported to the Magistrate Court on Tuesday after being “held in police custody for resisting police intimidation.”
“I can’t imagine Damola Olatunji @damolaolatunji has been in police jail since yesterday solely for standing up to police intimidation,” he had posted.
