According to the Federal Government, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, as well as the MDAs under it, have generated nearly N1 trillion in the last two years. This is despite the loss of N163, 281, 678, 792 (as at press time according to Net block cost of Shutdown tool) due to the unpopular twitter ban ‘decree’ of the federal government.
Dr. Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, revealed this during the virtual launch of another 12 Digital projects, saying that the ICT sector under President Muhammadu Buhari has spurred the greatest growth rate, resulting in the massive turnover of the ministry and agencies.
According to the Communications Minister, the majority of the revenue comes from telecom spectrum allotment and ICT company taxes paid to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
According to Dr. Pantami, the Federal Government has saved approximately N5 billion since the implementation of the Information Technology Projects Clearance Policy. However the minister had claimed that it was 22.5bn savings at NIITDA press conference in April 2021.
The Minister went on to say that at least 1,600 ICT and digital projects are ready to go..
