About 1000 vulnerable households in Kaduna State have been supported with food palliatives by the Muslim World League, a Saudi Arabian organisation, in a bid to cushion the effect of the coronavirus on the livelihood of poor families.

The palliatives, comprising a 1kg bag of rice, a carton of spaghetti and four litres of vegetable oil each, were distributed to the beneficiaries who were carefully selected from vulnerable homes in Kaduna communities yesterday.

Arewa Trust gathered that the league plans on spending one million Saudi Riyals to provide food palliatives to vulnerable households in Kaduna, Borno, Bauchi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi States.

The Commissioner, Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Baba, who distributed the items to the beneficiaries on behalf of the state government, charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items.

While commending the organisation for the gesture, she further charged the beneficiaries to continue to adhere to safety precautions such as social distancing and personal hygiene.

“We thank them for supporting our people because as government, whatever we are doing, we always appreciate people that support government’s effort”.

He added, “The league will be spending one million Saudi Riyals in seven states in Nigeria so we are in Kaduna to distribute 1000 food baskets to the less privileged in some areas in the state and also donate some medical items including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), N95 face masks, normal surgical face masks and goggles to the state Ministry of Health and some hospitals.

He said the screening of beneficiaries was very strict to ensure that the right beneficiaries receive the items because there are people who feed on a daily basis while some have lost their work due to the pandemic.

He commended the state government for effectively managing the pandemic, and advised the beneficiaries to follow the instruction of government on the corona virus pandemic.
