‘I will become Nigeria’s president’ – 2Baba’s wife Natasha Osawaru

Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru Idibia, member of the Edo State House of Assembly for Egor Constituency and granddaughter of billionaire businessman Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, told Chief Igbinedion at his 92nd birthday celebrations that she intended one day to become president of Nigeria.

The remarks, reported on Monday, 14 September 2026, were made as Honourable Osawaru paid tribute to the patriarch.

She called him a blessing to her family and said time in his company still moved her. “I promise you, I will be the President of this country,” she said. In a longer passage she added, “I will make you very proud, I promise you. Today shall be one of the best of your days and more to come. May God bless you, my grandfather. You are like my baby right now, I love you so much.”

Some accounts of the same speech record a sharper line: that she would be president before he was gone.

She also praised the way he had grown “sweeter and better” with age. The setting was personal, gold dressed and ceremonial, with Chief Igbinedion in the front row. It was not a manifesto launch.

That distinction matters. Honourable Osawaru, born on 14 November 1994, is a sitting state lawmaker, not a declared 2027 presidential candidate.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has already published its final list of presidential tickets for the 16 January 2027 poll. Her name is not on it. In May 2026 she secured the Nigeria Democratic Congress ticket to defend Egor. Any presidential run would belong to a later cycle.

Her public profile is already larger than her constituency seat. She is the wife of musician Innocent Ujah Idibia, known as 2Baba, and part of the Igbinedion family of Benin. She studied at Igbinedion University and later at Parsons School of Design in New York.

Supporters treat the birthday vow as a granddaughter’s gift to a 92 year old patron. Critics will hear celebrity politics: a promise offered without a party, a structure or a national campaign.

The Natasha Osawaru vows moment still has force because it mixes affection with ambition. Nigeria’s highest office is won in the field, not at a family lectern.

For now the pledge stands as a public hope spoken to a grandfather she calls her baby, and as a reminder that young politicians often test large language first among their own.
