A 15-year-old former student fell under scrutiny last spring after the student allegedly showed others a cellphone video of and a Florida teacher having sex, police say.
According to authorities, the teacher has now informed them that she is expecting a child.
Heiry Calvi, a 41-year-old teacher, had no response on the charges when she was freed from jail on Saturday after posting bond following her arrest on Thursday, according to WSVN and CBS Miami.
The woman’s pregnancy was confirmed by a Doral police spokesperson, Rey Valdes, who said that she reported her condition during the jail intake process after her arrest.
According to the arrest report, the student stated the sexual encounters were voluntary.
“Even if a youngster says, ‘This is OK,’ he or she does not have the legal authority to assent.” Valdes previously told the Miami Herald about the situation. “The adult bears responsibility.”
Calvi’s lawyer was not recognized, and neither was the father of her unborn kid.
A police report said Calvi had taught the student at John I. Smith K-8 Center, and the two grew close last year when Calvi began tutoring the student at the student’s home.
