Egungun Egungun festival

In a celebration of Oyo State’s rich heritage, the inaugural Egungun Festival Oyo State (EFOS) is set to take place from July 11th to 13th, 2024, at Liberty Stadium. Organised by the Ibile Culture and Tourism Foundation with support from the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Malimbe Labs, and FUJI: A Opera, the event aims to showcase the state’s diverse culture, music, and cuisine.

The festival will feature captivating performances by Egungun masquerades from all 33 local governments of Oyo State. These masquerades, steeped in historical significance, symbolise resilience and unity, embodying the essence of Oyo’s cultural legacy. Alongside the masquerade performances, attendees can enjoy electrifying Fuji music showcases by renowned artists, adding a rhythmic vibe to the festivities.

Moreover, culinary enthusiasts will have the opportunity to indulge in the savory flavors of Amala cuisine, with vendors from across Oyo State competing in a lively competition to be crowned the best Amala vendor. This culinary aspect of the festival promises to highlight the region’s diverse gastronomic offerings and add an extra dimension to the cultural celebration.

Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Oyo State Commissioner of Information, Culture & Tourism, stated that EFOS 2024 is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of identity, tradition, and community. He emphasised the festival’s role in honoring and preserving Oyo’s rich cultural heritage for generations to come. “This festival serves as a vibrant showcase of our rich cultural heritage, providing a platform to honour and preserve our traditions for generations to come.”

Dr. Adun Okupe, Principal Advisor at Red Clay Advisory, underscored the festival’s significance as a celebration of unity, diversity, and cultural pride, inviting everyone to join in the three days of joyous festivities and cultural exchange. He said, “We invite everyone to join us for three days of joyous festivities and cultural exchange.”
