The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected 64 petitions challenging the final lists of candidates for the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, the commission upheld 66 petitions while rejecting 64 others following a review of complaints over omitted names for governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.
Among those whose petitions were unsuccessful is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu. A source said his name was not included because it was not on the list of candidates originally submitted to INEC by his party.
However, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy and Gombe State PDP governorship candidate, Isa Ali Pantami, was cleared by the commission to contest the election. His clearance is subject to the outcome of pending court cases.
The status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, also remains subject to judicial determination, according to available reports.
INEC had earlier published candidate lists that omitted several names, prompting political parties to submit petitions for review in line with the Electoral Act.
