Inuwa Waya, former APC kano governorship candidate, will not contest in 2027 but pledges to support party unity and governance initiatives

Former Kano State governorship candidate Inuwa Waya announced in Kano on Wednesday that he will not contest the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress.

The statement followed a strategic meeting with his inner campaign circle, where Waya reflected on his political priorities and the future direction of the party.

Speaking to journalists, Waya explained that his decision is personal and motivated by a desire to contribute to the state’s progress through other avenues.

“I will not contest for the governorship election in 2027, and the decision is personal because I will continue to support moves that promote unity and good governance,” he said.

Waya reaffirmed his commitment to remaining within the APC, indicating openness to forming alliances with credible individuals and groups both inside and outside the party.

He stressed that collaboration and internal cohesion will be essential for the APC to reposition itself ahead of the next election cycle.

Reflecting on the party’s defeat in the 2023 governorship race, Waya attributed the loss to poor leadership, a lack of coordinated campaign strategy, and internal miscalculations that paved the way for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) victory.

“The party and its members must learn from those mistakes so as to avoid what happened during the 2023 elections,” he said.

Looking ahead, Waya emphasised the need for genuine reforms, internal discipline, and strategic planning to regain public trust and restore the APC to winning ways.

He expressed his intention to support efforts aimed at rebuilding the party and fostering unity among stakeholders.

The former senior official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation also commended Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for notable progress in infrastructural and social development.

He urged the governor to continue ongoing projects, stating that the people’s welfare should transcend partisan considerations.

Inuwa Waya remains an active figure in Kano’s political landscape, having contested the 2023 governorship election under the APC.

The party continues internal reviews and consultations to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections, following the NNPP’s legal challenge and eventual declaration as the winner in 2023.
