Isaac Fayose defends Peter Obi, criticising Geh-Geh and others who label him an ‘online president’ and highlights his real-world activism

Businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose, has defended Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against critics who label him an “online president.”

In a pointed statement aimed at social media personality Gehgeh, Fayose argued that many Nigerians criticising Obi’s political relevance engage only in performative activism, favouring online commentary over tangible civic participation.

Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, has often been described by detractors as a politician whose influence exists primarily on social media.

Supporters, however, credit him with inspiring a new political consciousness through youth engagement and civic awareness.

Fayose highlighted Obi’s active participation in recent civic demonstrations, specifically a protest advocating for real-time electronic transmission of election results.

“Many of you were saying he’s weak but he was out with us last week protesting for real-time electronic transmission. Where were you? You were online live-streaming,” Fayose stated.

He added: “The online people calling Peter Obi an Online President; Peter Obi has done his bits. History will be kind to him.”
