Israel DMW Impersonator Ban Relief as media aide thanks Twitter after fake account was suspended following complaints about impersonation

Nigerian media aide Israel DMW has expressed relief after a fake X account impersonating him was suspended, following his public complaints about identity misuse on the platform.

Israel DMW, a close aide to music executive Davido, had earlier raised alarm over the impersonator account, sharing screenshots of misleading posts and urging Nigerians to report the page before it caused reputational damage.

He also criticised X, formerly Twitter, for allegedly verifying or allowing the fake account to operate unchecked.

Israel DMW Finds Relief After Fake Page Ban came after the account was eventually suspended, bringing an end to days of concern over false content being circulated under his name.

Reacting to the development, Israel DMW thanked the platform for taking action, expressing relief that the situation had been resolved.

“Thank you, Twitter. I no just get body wey dem go beat like this,” he wrote, in a humorous remark suggesting he was glad to avoid potential backlash from the fake account’s activities.

His experience mirrors a growing trend among Nigerian celebrities who have publicly complained about impersonation scams on social media.

Actor Bolanle Ninalowo previously lamented the existence of multiple fake accounts using his identity on TikTok, questioning how he could establish an official presence when his name was already widely misused.

In another case, Ninalowo reacted to reports of a scammer using his identity to defraud a woman of 33 million naira, describing the situation as shocking and difficult to comprehend.

Similarly, actress Bimpe Akintunde has publicly cursed individuals impersonating her online to scam unsuspecting fans, while Portable’s partner Ashabi has also called out fraudsters using her name and image.

Actor Alesh Sanni has also raised alarm over impersonation scams, once placing a reward on information about a suspect allegedly using his identity to defraud victims, highlighting the growing scale of the issue.

The incidents underline increasing concerns about online identity theft in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with celebrities calling for stronger platform accountability and user protection.
