Following the attacks on some mosques in the southeast and the south-south geo-political zones of the country, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has asked the federal government to take immediate action against Rev. Fr. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah over an alleged “hateful sermon”.

It was gathered that the organisation claimed Onah’s sermon led to attacks on innocent Muslims in the zones.

According to a report, the NSCIA raised the views in two separate petitions sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, and the director-general, Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

The petition was signed by the deputy secretary-general of the NSCIA, Prof. Salisu Shehu.

According to him, the recurrence of such kinds of incessant arson and massacre of Muslims in the southeast and south-south could ignite reprisals in other parts of the country, especially the north if not checked.

Meanwhile, it had previously reported that some hoodlums attacked the Muslim communities in Nsukka local government area of Enugu state and destroyed properties and two mosques in the process.

It was reported that the altercation started when a Muslim woman selling tomato took Keke Napep from a village market to her shop in the town.

The woman and the Keke Napep driver got into an argument over her transport fare, resulting in the destruction and burning of properties belonging to Muslims in the area.

In another report, the Enugu state government said it would rebuild the two mosques that were damaged by some protesters in the Nsukka area of the state.

The chairman of Nsukka local government area of the state, Cosmas Ugwueze, made this known when he visited the damaged mosques.
