Ishaq Oloyede hands over as JAMB's youngest registrar assumes office

Professor Is-haq Oloyede has formally handed over the leadership of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to Professor Segun Aina, bringing his 10-year tenure as registrar to an end.

The transition took place on Friday following President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Aina as the new registrar of the examination body, marking the beginning of a new chapter for JAMB.

The JAMB youngest registrar, Professor Aina, succeeds Oloyede after a decade during which the board implemented sweeping institutional and technological reforms aimed at improving the credibility and efficiency of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process.

The appointment was announced in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with extensive experience in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reforms.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

According to the Presidency, Aina has spent more than 15 years advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, systems design and institutional reforms.

He has also served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), where his work focused on information technology systems and examination integrity.

The Presidency described Aina as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.

During Oloyede’s tenure, JAMB introduced major reforms, including the expansion of computer-based testing, strengthened examination security and enhanced admission processes, which significantly reshaped the operations of the board.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would consolidate on those achievements while driving further innovation and strengthening the integrity of JAMB’s operations.

The leadership transition comes as JAMB continues efforts to modernise Nigeria’s examination and admission system through greater use of technology and institutional reforms.
