Jigawa hostel fire outbreak destroys female students’ hostel in Jahun, affecting 52 students after a gas cylinder incident with no casualties
A fire outbreak has destroyed a female students’ hostel at the College of Health Technology in Jahun, Jigawa State, affecting 52 students after a cooking gas cylinder reportedly triggered the blaze.

Jigawa fire outbreak occurred late on Tuesday, rapidly spreading through the accommodation facility and consuming the structure along with personal belongings of the affected students.
No casualties were reported, though the incident caused significant material losses.
Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, Dr Abdullahi Muhammad Kainuwa, who visited the scene, confirmed that firefighters responded promptly and succeeded in bringing the fire under control before it could spread to nearby buildings.
His visit followed emergency efforts to assess the extent of the damage and coordinate response measures.
Local authorities have since taken steps to support the displaced students. Jahun Local Government Council Chairman, Malam Jamilu Muhammad Dan Malam, announced that transportation had been arranged to return the students to their respective homes for a six-day break while recovery efforts continue.
The council is also working in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials, including clothing and mattresses, to assist those affected by the fire.
A notable aspect of the incident is the swift mobilisation of emergency services, which helped prevent further escalation in a densely populated educational environment.
Despite the destruction, the absence of casualties has been described as a relief by officials and residents.
