Jonathan Bulus, spokesperson for the Plateau State ADC Concerned Youth Group, has alleged an attempt by unnamed individuals to undermine Hon. Jude Eli Dakur’s candidacy ahead of the 2027 governorship election, raising fresh concerns over internal disagreements within the African Democratic Congress in Plateau State.

Bulus, in a statement issued on Thursday, alleged that some individuals were attempting to create confusion around the party’s nomination process and circulate alternative names as the ADC’s governorship candidate.

“Some persons who are not even from Plateau State are hell-bent on going around trying to destroy the ADC in Plateau State.

What is their interest? Why are they so determined to destroy the ADC in Plateau?” Bulus said.

The group claimed that some individuals, including Hashim Imam, had been moving around allegedly canvassing for a change in the name of the party’s nominated candidate.

Bulus urged party members and other stakeholders to rely on official documents and established nomination procedures rather than names circulating through unofficial channels.

“We are concerned about the people going about trying to undermine the electoral process in Plateau State. Why are they so desperate to destroy Plateau ADC?” he said.

However, the latest allegation comes against the backdrop of an already disputed ADC governorship primary in Plateau State.

Dakur, a former Plateau State commissioner, joined the ADC from the All Progressives Congress in April 2026 and subsequently obtained the party’s nomination form for the 2027 governorship race. At the time, Dakur said his political ambition was driven by a desire for purposeful leadership and sustainable development in Plateau State.

The internal contest later became contentious. Reports published in May stated that retired General John Sura emerged as the ADC’s governorship candidate after the party primary.

Dakur rejected the result, alleging irregularities, over-voting, manipulation of figures and the exclusion of his agents from parts of the exercise. He called for a rerun in seven local government areas and the cancellation of the result from Jos North.

Dakur also alleged that more than 27,000 votes declared in Jos North had been fabricated and claimed that results from 13 of 16 wards in Mangu Local Government Area had been altered.

“I openly reject the outcome of the exercise because there were widespread electoral malpractices,” Dakur said at the time.

Sura, however, has subsequently been publicly identified as the ADC’s Plateau governorship candidate. In a June interview, Sura described himself as the party’s candidate and said he was preparing to contest the 2027 election.

The latest statement from the Plateau ADC Concerned Youth Group therefore appears to reopen a dispute that had already surrounded the party’s nomination process.

The group insists that it possesses documents supporting what it considers the valid nomination and says it intends to pursue its concerns through appropriate channels.

Bulus warned that any attempt to change a duly nominated candidate without complying with the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws would be resisted through legitimate democratic and legal means.

The group also appealed for calm among ADC members, urging party leaders to resolve disagreements through established internal mechanisms rather than allowing personal ambitions to deepen divisions.

The dispute comes as the ADC continues to position itself as a significant opposition platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

The party screened more than 70 governorship aspirants nationally in May as part of preparations for its primaries.

For Plateau State, the disagreement presents a potentially significant test for the party’s cohesion.

The ADC has publicly promoted themes of democratic participation and opposition politics, making the handling of its internal nomination disputes particularly important as the 2027 election approaches.

For now, the competing claims over the Plateau governorship ticket remain unresolved in the public domain.

The most important next step will be clarification through the ADC’s authorised structures and, where necessary, the relevant electoral or judicial processes.

The development adds another layer to an increasingly competitive Plateau political landscape, where Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is seeking another term and opposition parties are working to consolidate their positions ahead of 2027.
