Katsina kidnapping incident reports say a retired Army General and his wife were abducted along Matazu highway in a shocking attack

A retired Nigerian Army General and his wife were reportedly abducted along the Matazu highway in Katsina State, north western Nigeria, in an incident that has triggered widespread concern and unverified claims of ongoing negotiations with suspected bandit elements, according to circulating local reports on Friday.

The Katsina kidnapping incident is said to have occurred while the couple was travelling along the highway, an area that has experienced recurring security challenges in recent years. Initial accounts suggest armed men intercepted their vehicle before whisking them away to an undisclosed location.

Unconfirmed reports further allege that the abducted officer and his wife are being held by individuals linked to a known bandit figure identified as Kachalla Maha, with claims that discussions may involve the exchange of detained associates in return for their release.

These claims remain unverified by security authorities at the time of reporting.

Security sources have not officially confirmed the alleged negotiation or the identity of those responsible for the abduction.

However, the incident has intensified public concern over persistent insecurity along key routes in Katsina State, where kidnappings for ransom have remained a recurring challenge.

The Katsina kidnapping incident has also sparked anxiety among residents and commuters, with calls mounting for increased security presence along vulnerable highways.

Local communities continue to urge authorities to intensify surveillance and improve rapid response capacity in affected areas.

Efforts are reportedly ongoing by security agencies to ascertain the whereabouts of the victims and establish contact with their abductors. Officials are yet to issue a comprehensive statement as investigations continue.
