Katsina State has disbursed N328m under the Katsina medical students allowance scheme for 650 students in accredited universities

The Katsina State Government has disbursed N328 million under Phase I of the 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme to support 650 students studying in 33 accredited universities.

Governor Dikko Radda approved the initiative as part of efforts to strengthen human capital development in the healthcare sector and expand access to professional medical training.

The General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Muhammad Nazir, confirmed the disbursement in a statement issued on Saturday.

The statement, signed by the board’s secretary, Abu Usman, said the Katsina medical students allowance covers beneficiaries enrolled in universities both within and outside Nigeria.

According to the board, the scheme was introduced to reduce the financial burden faced by medical students during their academic and professional training.

“This is a strategic investment by the state government to build a competent, resilient and service-oriented healthcare workforce capable of meeting the evolving health needs of Katsina State and the nation,” the statement read.

The board said it coordinated the transparent disbursement of funds to eligible beneficiaries to ensure accountability and proper management of government support.

Officials described the programme as a powerful intervention aimed at creating a steady pipeline of qualified healthcare professionals for the state’s growing medical needs.

The government added that additional phases of the scheme would follow as part of its broader commitment to healthcare workforce development and improved public health delivery.
