Kebbi boat accident in Yauri LGA kills 14, mostly women, after a wedding. Governor Nasir Idris mourns with bereaved families
A tragic boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State has claimed the lives of 14 people, predominantly women.

The incident occurred over the weekend shortly after a wedding ceremony.
The boat, which was transporting attendees back home after escorting a bride to her husband’s residence in Gwarzo village, Ngaski LGA, reportedly capsized mid-journey at Gumbi village.
Governor Nasir Idris, speaking through the Yauri local government chairman, Abubaksr Shau’aiu, extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Yauri Emirate, and residents of the area.
He described the incident as a painful tragedy that has thrown the state into mourning.
“I appeal to you to accept this incident in good faith, bearing in mind that nothing happens without the knowledge of our Creator,” Idris said.
“God does what He wants at the time He wants, and nobody has the right to question Him.”
Reports indicate that over 100 people were on board the vessel when it capsized.
Fourteen people lost their lives, including 13 women and a child.
The community has been urged to remain steadfast and find solace in their faith as they mourn the victims.

The accident underscores ongoing concerns about boat safety in the region, particularly during community and ceremonial events. Authorities have not yet provided details about investigations or preventive measures.
