Kebbi terror attack leaves one resident abducted and several buildings destroyed as security forces intensify rescue and investigation efforts

Suspected terrorists attacked Tsamiya community in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State on Saturday night, abducting a resident identified as Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare and setting fire to a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost, a brothel, and a residential building in a violent raid that has heightened security concerns in the area.

The Kebbi Terror Attack was confirmed by the Kebbi State Police Command, which disclosed that the assailants stormed the community, fired gunshots indiscriminately, and destroyed several properties before fleeing with the abducted victim.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the spokesperson for the command, Bashir Usman, said the attackers targeted key locations within the community during the operation.

“The assailants invaded the area, fired sporadically, and set ablaze a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, a local brothel, and the residence of one Sule Mai Goge. One Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare was also kidnapped during the incident,” Usman stated.

The attack is the latest in a series of security challenges affecting parts of north-western Nigeria, where communities have faced recurring threats from armed groups involved in kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Tsamiya and surrounding communities to strengthen security presence and reassure residents.

Police authorities said a coordinated response involving multiple security agencies had already commenced, with efforts focused on locating the abducted resident and identifying those responsible for the attack.

“The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have commenced investigations and intensified operations aimed at rescuing the kidnapped victim and bringing the perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.

While no fatalities were reported during the raid, the destruction of the NSCDC outpost and civilian properties has raised fresh concerns about the vulnerability of remote communities located near known security flashpoints.

Security analysts note that attacks on security infrastructure often signal attempts by criminal groups to weaken local response capabilities and create fear among residents.

The incident also comes amid ongoing efforts by federal and state authorities to improve security across vulnerable areas of Kebbi State and neighbouring regions affected by cross-border criminal activities.

Residents of Tsamiya have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue operations.

As security forces intensify their search, the Kebbi Terror Attack has once again underscored the persistent challenge of protecting rural communities from armed violence and kidnapping networks operating across parts of northern Nigeria.
