Kontagora police officer robbery arrest as Niger State Police detain officer linked to fatal filling station attack and killing of attendant

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a serving Mobile Police officer, Inspector Jido Ahmed, over his alleged involvement in a violent armed robbery in Kontagora Local Government Area that left a 22-year-old fuel attendant dead.

The arrest follows a distress report received, regarding an armed robbery at Garun Mallam Filling Station, located behind BCG Garage in Kontagora, where armed suspects reportedly attacked staff and fled with an undisclosed sum of money.

According to security sources cited by analyst Zagazola Makama, two armed men arrived at the station on a motorcycle, one of whom was dressed in a Mobile Police uniform.

The suspects allegedly purchased fuel before demanding cash from the attendant.

When the attendant, identified as 22-year-old Jibrin Inuwa of Garun Mallam, resisted the demand, he was shot in the chest.

He was rushed to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

Police patrol teams from ‘A’ Division Kontagora, led by the Divisional Police Officer, later tracked the suspects to the Dadinkowa area behind a vigilante office.

A gun duel reportedly ensued during the operation.

The Kontagora police officer robbery arrest took a dramatic turn when one of the suspects was identified as Inspector Jido Ahmed, attached to 61 PMF Kontagora but currently on special duty in Agwara.

The officer was injured during the exchange and treated at the General Hospital Kontagora before being referred to the Police Clinic in Minna.

An AK-47 rifle with serial number 38262 and 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from him during the operation.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect who fled the scene.

Police sources say investigations are continuing as the command works to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, which has sparked concern over internal accountability within security agencies.
