Lagos APC aspirants dismiss claims linking Speaker Obasa to protests, calling the allegations mischievous and urging party unity

A coalition of aspirants in the All Progressives Congress has strongly rejected attempts to link the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, to recent protests that followed the party’s concluded primaries in Lagos State.

Lagos APC Obasa protest claims were dismissed in a statement issued on Wednesday by prominent aspirants, who described the allegations as “malicious and distracting” and aimed at diverting attention from genuine grievances raised during the electoral process.

The group insisted that the demonstrations were a spontaneous reaction by party members and supporters across the state, driven by dissatisfaction over the conduct of the primaries rather than any external influence or sponsorship.

According to the statement, the protests reflected widespread concerns over alleged manipulation, distortion of results, cheating, and breaches of party guidelines during the selection process.

“To suggest that thousands of committed APC members and supporters required sponsorship before voicing their frustrations is insulting to their intelligence and dismissive of their legitimate concerns,” the aspirants stated.

The coalition also accused unnamed individuals of attempting to scapegoat Speaker Obasa in order to downplay the issues raised and shift focus away from calls for fairness and internal party reform.

Signatories to the statement included Hon. Seye Oladejo, Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, Hon. Noheem Adams, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Hon. Apata Samuel, Hon. David Doherty, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi and Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the aspirants urged party leadership to prioritise reconciliation and address outstanding complaints to strengthen internal unity.

They stressed that resolving the grievances of aspirants and supporters would restore confidence in the APC’s internal democratic processes and position the party for a more cohesive electoral strategy.
