Lagos community attack leaves one man dead after gunmen opened fire in the Igando area of Lagos State

A male resident identified simply as Golden has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in a violent Lagos community attack in the Igando area of Lagos State.

Police sources said the incident occurred on Tuesday along Fatoki Street within the community after two armed assailants reportedly arrived on a motorcycle searching for the victim.

The attackers allegedly located Golden and opened fire, killing him on the spot before fleeing the area.

A police source familiar with the investigation disclosed on Thursday that officers were immediately deployed to the scene after reports of gunshots emerged.

“We got a report that someone was shot on Fatoki Street, and when our men were deployed to the scene, the deceased was found lying lifeless in a pool of blood,” the source said.

The victim was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed him dead before his remains were deposited at a morgue.

Authorities said investigations into the Lagos community attack were ongoing, although police had yet to determine the exact motive behind the killing.

Meanwhile, anti-cultism advocacy platform Confra Naija claimed the incident was linked to a business-related dispute rather than cult violence.

According to the platform, both the Aye and Vikings confraternities were initially mentioned in connection with the attack, but sources later indicated the killing allegedly stemmed from a dispute involving internet fraud proceeds commonly referred to as “Yahoo money.”

Confra Naija further alleged that Golden had been sitting outside before the attackers entered the street on a motorcycle and shot him in the head.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Lagos State Police Command were unsuccessful as calls to the spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, went unanswered.

A text message sent to the police spokesperson had also not been replied to as of the time of filing this report.

The killing comes barely five days after another fatal shooting in Lagos State, where a shawarma vendor identified simply as Andy was allegedly shot dead by suspected cultists in the Sangotedo area of the state.
