The Lagos State Water Corporation (LSWC) officially inaugurated the Mosan-Okunola (2MGD) Waterworks, marking the end of a staggering 25-year-long water scarcity crisis in the Baruwa-Abesan community.

The initiative, part of the concerted efforts of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration, underscores the state government’s commitment to addressing essential infrastructure challenges and enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.

The Mosan-Okunola Waterworks project, with a capacity of 2 million gallons per day (2MGD), is a pivotal component of the Governor Sanwo-Olu administration’s strategic plan to revitalize and expand water supply infrastructure across the state. The project is part of the larger framework executed by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, demonstrating a purposeful approach to ensuring residents’ access to reliable and high-quality water supply.

The Baruwa-Abesan community, which has grappled with water scarcity for a quarter of a century, is now expressing profound gratitude to the state government for the timely intervention. Residents, who have long endured the challenges of inadequate water supply, are welcoming the Mosan-Okunola Waterworks as a game-changer that will significantly improve their daily lives.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his commitment to creating a sustainable and habitable environment for Lagosians, took to social media to highlight the achievement. He tweeted, “Today, we mark a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Mosan-Okunola (2MGD) Waterworks, a crucial step in our journey to provide quality water supply for Lagosians. This is a testament to our administration’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the well-being of our people.”

The Lagos State Water Corporation, responsible for the implementation of the project, has ensured that the Mosan-Okunola Waterworks meets international standards for water treatment and distribution. The corporation’s efforts align with the broader vision of making clean and potable water readily available to all residents of Lagos State.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by government officials, community leaders, and representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources emphasized the transformative impact of the Mosan-Okunola Waterworks on the Baruwa-Abesan community and its residents.
