Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu seeks stronger Lagos Mexico tourism partnership during talks with Mexican Ambassador Alfredo Ortiz
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the Lagos Mexico tourism partnership and expanding cultural exchange with Mexico.

Sanwo-Olu made the pledge during a courtesy visit by the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfredo Ortiz, accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Mexico in Lagos, Abiodun Otunola, at Lagos House in Ikeja.
The governor commended the Mexican government for opening an honorary consulate in Lagos, describing the development as a strategic step towards deepening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
“We appreciate the decision of the Mexican government to open an honorary consulate in Lagos, which will further strengthen our bilateral relationship and deepen cooperation between our two countries,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He noted that the engagement created opportunities for both sides to share ideas, collaborate, and explore initiatives that would benefit citizens while strengthening economic and cultural ties.
Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged Mexico’s willingness to work with Nigeria on shared challenges, including security concerns, while promoting diplomatic and economic partnerships.
He said Lagos was ready to collaborate with Mexico on business development, sports initiatives and tourism promotion.
According to the governor, Lagos remains committed to creating an enabling environment that will attract investors and tourists, adding that such partnerships could also expand the state’s economic influence across the West African market.
Earlier, the Mexican Ambassador to Nigeria, Alfredo Ortiz, said his country was eager to deepen diplomatic and economic relations with Lagos State and Nigeria.
“Mexico is committed to expanding bilateral relations with Nigeria and Lagos State in particular,” Ortiz said.
“We look forward to working together to promote trade, tourism and economic cooperation that will benefit both countries.”

He added that Mexico would continue exploring opportunities to boost economic growth, trade development and cultural exchange between both nations, describing the engagement as an important step towards stronger international collaboration.
