Jimoh disclosed the development on Monday during a meeting with journalists at the Officers’ Mess in Ikeja, Lagos, saying the arrests followed ongoing investigations into the fatal attack.
Prince Ademola Akinloye was reportedly shot and brutally attacked by gunmen on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Drive near Ebeano Supermarket in the Agungi area of Lagos.
Police investigations earlier led to the arrest of nine suspects who were linked to the killing through intelligence gathering and evidence.
Jimoh revealed that the command has now apprehended additional suspects who allegedly participated in the crime.
“In the course of the investigation, we have apprehended more suspects who have voluntarily confessed to the roles they played in the crime,” Jimoh said.
The police chief did not disclose the exact number of newly arrested suspects but described the confessions as a significant breakthrough in the case.
Jimoh added that security operatives are still searching for the principal suspect, Ahmad Akanbi, who had earlier been declared wanted in connection with the incident.
“We are still pursuing him and have not relented in our efforts. The command remains determined to ensure that justice is served and that all those responsible for criminal acts are brought before the law,” Jimoh said.
Police authorities also disclosed that some suspects linked to the Akinloye murder are connected to the earlier killing of Sheriff Salami, which occurred on April 18, 2023, in the Moba community in Ajah, Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran has reaffirmed its involvement in the investigation into the deaths of Prince Akinloye and Sheriff Salami.
In a public notice signed by Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye and Alhaji Yekini Olawale Bakare, the royal family said both killings occurred in broad daylight within the Ojomu community.
The family stated that its participation in the investigation aims to ensure accountability for those responsible and restore safety within the kingdom.
