Lagos police kill four kidnappers in fierce gun battle in Ejigbo, recover AK-47 and other weapons while foiling alleged abduction plot

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command Special Squad 1, reportedly killed four suspected kidnappers during a gun battle in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State while foiling an alleged plan to abduct a businessman at Jakande Estate Gate.

The Lagos police kill four kidnappers operation followed credible intelligence indicating that a suspected kidnapping syndicate was preparing to strike at about 9:30 p.m. in the area, prompting a swift deployment of tactical operatives to monitor and intercept the suspects.

Police sources said the gang opened fire on officers upon sighting them, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted several minutes before the suspects were overpowered.

According to a senior officer who spoke on condition of anonymity, the suspected gang leader identified as Ifeanyi, also known as “Ifeko,” had previously been linked to kidnapping operations in Lagos State.

The officer further alleged that the group had connections to another suspected gang leader, Henry Asoona, who was reportedly killed during a police operation at Ladipo International Spare Parts Market in 2024.

During the encounter, four suspects were neutralised, while one reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds, as police recovered a cache of weapons and vehicles from the scene.

Recovered items included a Toyota Sienna vehicle, an AK-47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 25 rounds of live ammunition, a submachine gun with 12 rounds of ammunition, and keys to a Toyota Corolla and Lexus vehicle.

The Lagos police kill four kidnappers operation also left one police inspector injured after sustaining a gunshot wound to his left leg.

He was taken to the Police College Hospital in Ikeja, where he is receiving treatment.

Police authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other members of the alleged criminal gang.

The command described the operation as part of sustained efforts to curb kidnapping and violent crime across Lagos State.
