Lagos road crashes leave four dead and seven injured as LASEMA responds to three separate incidents in Ibeju-Lekki, Agege and Igando
Four people have died and seven others have been injured in three separate road accidents across Lagos State on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed, following incidents involving heavy-duty trucks and other vehicles in Ibeju-Lekki, Agege and Igando.
The deadliest crash occurred at Berger Bridge, inward Eleko, along the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, where an articulated truck carrying a 20-foot container overturned onto an interstate Toyota Hiace bus.

LASEMA said four adult men died at the scene, while six other men sustained injuries and were taken to Epe General Hospital for medical attention.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s permanent secretary, said the agency received a distress call and immediately mobilised its response team from the Epe Base.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck was travelling uphill on the bridge at excessive speed when it collided with the bus.
The truck driver reportedly lost control while attempting to avoid the collision, causing the vehicle to overturn onto the passenger bus.
Emergency personnel from LASEMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force secured the scene and administered first aid to the injured.
A private crane was also secured to recover the overturned truck and container and facilitate the safe extrication of the deceased.
Recovery operations and traffic management measures were under way as emergency responders worked to clear the affected section of the expressway.
The fatal incident was followed by two other truck-related accidents elsewhere in the state, although neither resulted in additional reported deaths.
At about 4.09 am, LASEMA’s Tiger Team from its C3 Base responded to an accident near Vetland School, inward Agege Pen Cinema, along Old Abeokuta Road.
A truck with registration number KTU-940XT had struck a solar-powered streetlight pole before mounting the road median and obstructing traffic.
Oke-Osanyintolu said preliminary findings attributed the incident to reckless driving.
No casualties were reported. LASEMA deployed traffic diversion measures before recovering the truck with its heavy-duty recovery equipment, known as Elephant.
The vehicle was subsequently taken to Abattoir Police Station for further investigation and safekeeping.
The third accident occurred at Lanre Bus Stop, inward Igando, along LASU-Igando Road, where a DAF truck with registration number SMK 795 XY collided with a Toyota Corolla bearing registration number AKD 169 EA.
According to LASEMA, a broken-down truck on the opposite side of the road had contributed to traffic congestion when the DAF truck allegedly drove against traffic and collided with the Corolla.
The impact obstructed part of the road towards Igando, while the Corolla driver sustained a minor head injury. The injured driver was taken to Igando General Hospital by an associate, Oke-Osanyintolu said.
The Corolla was towed to Igando Police Station, while LASEMA deployed its Super Metro heavy-duty recovery equipment to remove the DAF truck and restore traffic flow. The recovery operation was still ongoing at the time of the agency’s statement.
The three incidents have renewed attention on road safety risks associated with speeding, dangerous manoeuvres and the operation of heavy vehicles on busy Lagos roads.
While the circumstances differed across the locations, the incidents highlighted how vehicle control, traffic congestion and obstruction can quickly create dangerous conditions for motorists and passengers.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists to observe speed limits, avoid driving against traffic and refrain from reckless manoeuvres.
He also advised drivers to ensure their vehicles were mechanically sound before setting out on journeys.
He commiserated with the families of those who died and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Residents were also reminded to report emergencies through Lagos State’s toll-free emergency numbers, 767 and 112, to help ensure that response teams can be mobilised promptly.
The cause of each incident remains subject to the relevant investigations.
