Lagos WAEC fraud sparks outrage after students allegedly discovered they were not registered despite paying examination fees

Parents and students of Transfield College, located in the Wooden Onirin area of Lagos State, have been thrown into distress after allegations emerged that the school proprietor disappeared with money collected for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination registration.

According to accounts circulating among affected families, each student was allegedly required to pay ₦80,000 for WAEC registration, with more than 300 students said to have made the payment through the school management.

The situation reportedly came to light on the day of the examination when students discovered that their names were missing from the official examination records.

Several parents alleged that the students were never properly registered for the examination despite months of assurances from the school authorities.

Some of the affected candidates were also reportedly told by the proprietor that thumbprinting and other registration procedures had already been handled on their behalf.

The Lagos WAEC fraud allegation has triggered anger and emotional reactions among parents who said they sacrificed heavily to ensure their children could sit for the examination.

Many families now fear that the affected students may have to wait another academic year before rewriting the examination, a development described by some parents as devastating and deeply unfair.

Residents in the area said attempts to contact the school proprietor after the incident proved unsuccessful, with reports alleging that the individual could no longer be located.

The incident has also renewed concerns about inadequate oversight of private secondary schools and examination registration processes across parts of the country.

Education stakeholders say the alleged scandal highlights the importance of parents independently confirming WAEC registration details and ensuring candidates complete biometric verification personally before examination dates.

At the time of filing this report, neither the Lagos State Ministry of Education nor the West African Examinations Council had issued an official statement regarding the allegations involving Transfield College.

Parents of the affected students are reportedly considering legal action and petitions to relevant authorities as pressure mounts for a thorough investigation into the matter.
