Malami, son granted N200m bail over terrorism, firearms charges

The Federal High Court in Abuja granted former AGF Abubakar Malami and his son N200m bail each over alleged terrorism financing and illegal firearms possession

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, in a ruling on their separate bail applications, stated that bail is meant to ensure defendants appear for trial.

Each defendant must provide two sureties of equal sum, with one surety owning a developed property in Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja, and depositing the title deed with the court.

Other bail conditions include:

  •  Deposition of affidavits of means by the sureties
  •  Submission of two recent passport photographs of each defendant
  •  Deposit of Malami and his son’s passports and photographs with the court

The court remanded the defendants at Kuje Correctional Centre pending perfection of bail conditions and adjourned the trial to March 4, 2026.

The Department of State Services arraigned Malami and Abdulaziz on five counts, including terrorism financing, conduct preparatory to terrorism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The prosecution alleged that Malami, while serving as AGF and Minister of Justice in November 2022, refused to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers whose files were forwarded to his office.

In December 2025, he and his son allegedly possessed a Sturm Magnum 17-0101 firearm, 16 live Redstar AAA cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges at their residence in Gesse Phase II Area, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Kebbi State.
