The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC over the alleged withdrawal of N6.7 billion in cash by the embattled governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi.
The petition signed by Nkemakolam Okoro S.C., Esq. of Dynamic Options Chambers on behalf of the PDP addressed to the EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa noted that pursuant to the judgement of the Federal High Court on March 8, 2022, Umahi was removed as governor of Ebonyi State.
They alleged that immediately after the removal, Umahi commenced “massive looting of the properties and finances of Ebonyi State”.
They also alleged that in the space of one week, Umahi has withdrawn over N6 billion from the Ebonyi State government account in Zenith, First Bank, United Bank of Africa, Fidelity Bank, Union Bank, FCMB and Stanbic IBTC Bank to fund the legal fees for some of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) contracted to fight his sack by the court.
The petition also alleges that one of the legal firms had requested a down payment of $1million before accepting Umahi’s briefs and “the naira withdrawals are immediately converted to dollars to achieve this purpose”.
The PDP, therefore, prayed on the EFCC chairman to use his esteemed office to ‘stop the massive looting of the finances of Ebonyi State by David Umeze Umahi…”
