Otunba Daniel defection: Media Office condemns false reports, demands retraction and apology over malicious publications

The controversy surrounding the Otunba Gbenga Daniel defection reports has deepened, as the media office of the senator representing Ogun East District has issued a strong rejoinder against publications they described as offensive, malicious and libelous.

In a statement, the media office expressed disappointment over articles published by Oguninsight and News Across under the headline “EXCLUSIVE: Billions, Betrayal, and a By-Election – The Inside Story of Gbenga Daniel’s Suspension from Ogun APC.”

The report, which was later republished in Vanguard, PM News and several other national newspapers on August 24, 2025, suggested that Senator Daniel had been suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to his Media Office, the story sought to damage his reputation and misrepresent his political standing.

“This libelous publication has the capacity to injure the hard-earned reputation of our principal, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, which he has earned through decades of professional, business and political service,” the office stated.

They demanded a full retraction and public apology across all platforms where the report was circulated, including the removal of content from social media within seven days.

Failure to do so, the office warned, would lead to decisive legal action.

“Our lawyers have been adequately briefed to proceed on the next course of action should you fail to heed this call for retraction,” the statement emphasised.

For clarity, the media office reaffirmed that Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel remains a loyal member of the APC and continues to serve as the duly elected Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District.

The office concluded by thanking supporters and urging the public to disregard what it described as a deliberate attempt to malign the distinguished senator.
