Nigerian actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe has spoken candidly about her life journey, describing motherhood as her greatest achievement and reflecting on the deep personal loss of her mother.

Aigbe made the remarks during a recent appearance on The Morayo Show, where she discussed her career, family life and the role of faith in navigating life’s challenges.

The award-winning actress said her resilience and reliance on God have been central to her journey, particularly in balancing motherhood with the demands of her career.

“Wherever I am today is a testament to me not giving up,” Aigbe said.

“Being a mother is actually what I am most proud of. I just love being a mother, and I see it as a huge blessing that God has placed the responsibility of nurturing another human being on me.”

She said she constantly prays not only for strength but also for wisdom in raising her children, describing motherhood as a responsibility she takes seriously and does not want to fail.

Reflecting on the death of her mother, Aigbe said the experience remains difficult to fully comprehend, especially as she was outside Nigeria when the tragedy occurred.

“I was in denial until we laid her to rest,” she said. “I wasn’t in the country when she passed. My husband called me and broke the news, and it was something I struggled to accept.”

The actress admitted that the loss still feels unreal, noting that many of her mother’s belongings remain untouched.

“I don’t know how to describe losing her. It feels like a dream. It is indescribable,” she said.

Aigbe revealed that she shared a close bond with her mother and had hoped she would recover from her illness, despite her prolonged health challenges.

“It is a pain that never goes away,” she said. “You just learn to live with it.”

The emotional toll of the loss also affected her professional life.

Aigbe disclosed that she suspended her filmmaking activities late last year, citing emotional exhaustion.

“I didn’t produce a movie last December because of the loss of my mum,” she said. “I knew I wasn’t mentally ready.”
