Meta, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, has expanded its AI service, “Meta AI,” to 12 countries outside the United States.

These countries include Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Canada, Australia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and others.

The rollout, currently in English, aims to boost connections and equip users with new creative, expressive, and productivity tools directly within these popular apps.

Meta said in a blog post on Thursday that since its initial unveiling at last year’s Connect event, Meta AI has evolved into a multifaceted tool that seamlessly integrates into users’ daily lives.

With Meta Llama 3 technology at its core, Meta AI empowers users to accomplish tasks, acquire knowledge, foster creativity, and forge connections with ease.

Part of the statement read, “We’re rolling out Meta AI in English in more than a dozen countries outside of the US. Now, people will have access to Meta AI in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe—and we’re just getting started.

“Thanks to our latest advances with Meta Llama 3, Meta AI is smarter, faster and more fun than ever before,” the company stated.

Meta said its new AI is now the most intelligent AI assistant anyone can use for free, and it’s available in more countries across our apps.

With the Meta AI in feeds, chats, searches and more across our apps, users can get things done and access real-time information without having to leave the app.

The founder of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, said, “With our expansion of Meta AI in English to new countries, we are excited to share our next-generation assistant with even more people and make it work for you by providing real-time information through our seamless search integration in the apps you know and love.

“We’re upgrading Meta AI with our new state-of-the-art Llama 3 AI model, which we’re open-sourcing. We also built some unique creation features, like the ability to animate photos.

“Meta AI generates high-quality images so fast that it creates and updates them in real-time as you’re typing. It’ll also generate a playback video of your creation process.”

The advent of AI has been revolutionary, with big companies like Meta, Microsoft, and Google rolling out different products.

However, experts have expressed major concerns about AI, such as lack of transparency, bias and discrimination, privacy concerns, ethical dilemmas, security risks, concentration of power, and the long-term risks associated with the development of artificial general intelligence that surpasses human intelligence.
