Divergent opinions trail the Lagos state governor’s stance on a viral video of a crying boy. While some Nigerians praised the governor for the gesture of inviting the boy to visit him, others thought otherwise.

Reacting to the said video, a Lagos lawyer, Abiodun Tugbiyele, during Sunrise Daily show on Channels TV, whilst examining the content and fallouts of the video, claimed whoever might have celebrated the boy in the video was an accomplice in the very act of child abuse.

Speaking during the programme, the legal practitioner said, “The child has been mocked in the public and the video is not worth celebrating. Infact, there is need to pay close attention to the child going forward.”

He advised that the governor should reprimand the mother, while wondering why such was being celebrated in Nigeria.

Speaking further, Tugbiyele also called the act of shooting and making the video go viral as an invasion of the child’s right and privacy.

“You have to respect the rights of children as you heap adulation on him. You made an accusation against the child in the said video and you circulated it. Why?” he wondered.

Also, a senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie, criticized the video in the strongest terms possible. She claimed it affected the rights of the child, pointing out the said video was a clear case of child abuse.

“In saner climes, the child would’ve been in the care of social services and the mother charged,” she said.

Speaking to the contrary during the Channels TV pprogramme as monitored by City News, a former Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Monday Ubani averred that the boy in the video should be celebrated for marshaling his way out of trouble via his sound negotiating skills and sheer brilliance.

Ubani saw nothing wrong in the governor’s action.
