The ruling, delivered on 14 April 2026, followed prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, which accused the defendant of using false identity claims to facilitate a fraudulent visa operation.
According to court proceedings, the case stemmed from a petition by the British Deputy High Commission, which raised concerns over suspicious activities linked to international travel documentation and alleged racketeering.
Investigators told the court that Remilekun Temitope Balogun-Okedeyi falsely presented herself as a NAFDAC official in order to gain credibility and deceive targets involved in the visa process.
During trial, the ICPC presented evidence showing that the defendant knowingly misrepresented her identity and benefited financially from the scheme.
She later pleaded guilty to the amended charge, which expedited the court’s decision.
A prosecution witness detailed how the fraudulent network operated, explaining the role impersonation played in misleading relevant authorities and victims connected to the visa arrangement.
In her judgment, Justice Mojisola Dada sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment, with an option of a ₦500,000 fine.
The court also ordered her to perform community service within court premises and enter into a bond of good behaviour.
