NCSP DG World Data Assembly participation boosts Nigeria’s role in global data governance and digital economy talks in Beijing
The Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Tegbe, participated in the inaugural assembly of the World Data Organization held in Beijing, China, joining over 500 global stakeholders in discussions on data governance and the digital economy.

The high-level gathering brought together senior government officials, representatives of multilateral institutions, and digital technology experts, marking a significant step towards coordinated global action on data access, utilisation, and security.

Tegbe attended the event alongside the NCSP Head of International Relations, Judy Melifonwu, signalling Nigeria’s deepening engagement in global digital cooperation, particularly within its strategic partnership with China.
The engagement reflects Nigeria’s ambition to play a more active role in shaping international frameworks that govern cross-border data flows and emerging digital ecosystems.
A keynote address was delivered by Ding Xuexiang on behalf of Xi Jinping, highlighting the urgent need for global collaboration to harness the value of data while ensuring trust, inclusiveness, and security.
For Nigeria, participation at this level offers a strategic gateway to influence global standards, deepen bilateral cooperation with China on digital infrastructure, and unlock investment opportunities within the fast-growing digital economy.

Observers note that the assembly presents a powerful platform for knowledge exchange and capacity building, positioning Nigerian institutions and talent to benefit from evolving global data systems.
