Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a woman, identified as Aisha Isah, after recovering 266 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition from her during a patrol along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
Isah was arrested at a toll gate along the highway, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
The NDLEA did not disclose where she was travelling from, her intended destination or the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the ammunition. It also did not state whether she had been charged or transferred to another security agency for further investigation.
The arrest was among several operations conducted by the agency across the country. In one of the operations along the Zaria-Kano Expressway, a 68-year-old man was arrested with thousands of ampoules and tablets of controlled substances. Other seizures of cannabis and illicit drugs were recorded in Lagos, Kaduna and other states.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the officers and charged them to sustain the tempo against drug cartels.
