Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted two containers containing 1,596 cartons of codeine-based syrup, amounting to 319,200 bottles with a street value of N2,234,400,000. The containers, which originated from Mundra port in India, were seized during a joint examination with other port stakeholders at the Tincan seaport in Lagos on Friday, 23rd August 2024.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi confirmed the details of the seizure in a statement released on Sunday. He also reported the arrest of a suspect, Godwill Davidson, who was apprehended on Wednesday, 21st August, in the Mushin area of Lagos with 3,834 bottles of codeine syrup, 5,200 pills of Co-Codamol, and 11,880 tablets of Rohypnol.
In another operation on the same day, operatives arrested 23-year-old Yahaya Ibrahim along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway in Kogi State, seizing 42,000 pills of tramadol that were transported from Asaba, Delta State, en route to Potiskum, Yobe State.
The NDLEA continues to work diligently with various stakeholders to disrupt drug supply chains and ensure the safety of communities across the country.
