Odumodu vows to boycott Ghanaian artists after Nigeria AFCON loss

Rapper Odumodu vows to never work with Ghanaian artists, criticising referee Daniel Laryea after Nigeria’s AFCON semi-final loss to Morocco

Nigerian rapper Odumodu stirred controversy on social media after vowing never to record with a Ghanaian artist again following Nigeria’s 2026 AFCON semi-final defeat to Morocco.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter) during the tense match, Odumodu said: “If we lose this match, I will never make music with a Ghanaian artist in my life.” His outburst coincided with public criticism of Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea, whom many Nigerians accused of favouring Morocco in key moments.

Fans quickly reacted to the rapper’s declaration. Some condemned Odumodu for linking music collaborations to football results, while others highlighted his prior success working with Ghanaian artists.

Social media user @SMSpaceTalkShow noted: “Meanwhile it was a Ghanaian artiste that got you a popular song, so shut up. Your biggest song came from collab with a Ghanaian !!”

Odumodu’s comments added fuel to wider debate about officiating during the semi-final.

Nigeria lost in a penalty shoot-out after Samuel Chukwueze missed a crucial spot-kick, prompting strong reactions from fans and celebrities alike.

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday also voiced her frustration online, criticising Chukwueze’s penalty miss.

The missed opportunity, combined with perceived referee bias, intensified social media reactions and fan anger.

The rapper’s post sparked division among Nigerians, with some defending his emotional response to the loss, while others questioned his judgment in publicly targeting an entire nation of artists over football.
