The actor’s daughter says the family is seeking help from anyone who can offer traditional treatment, while Senator Yayi has provided financial support

Veteran Nigerian actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has reportedly been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, prompting his daughter to make an emotional appeal for help from people who may be able to assist with his treatment.

The actor’s daughter made the appeal in a video shared online, where she explained that the family was not primarily seeking financial donations but was hoping to find someone who could provide traditional treatment for the veteran actor.

She also acknowledged the support of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, saying the lawmaker had been assisting the family financially during the difficult period.

The daughter, however, appealed for other forms of assistance as the family continues to search for treatment options for the actor.

The report of Ogogo cancer has generated concern among fans of the veteran performer, who has remained a familiar figure in the Nigerian film industry for decades.

Taiwo Hassan, born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, began his acting career in the early 1980s after initially working as an automobile mechanic.

He later became one of the recognisable faces of Yoruba-language cinema, working as an actor, producer and director.

His career has included appearances in productions such as Omo Ghetto, Anikulapo and Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre, further establishing his standing among veteran Nigerian performers.

The latest development also comes after Hassan previously spoke publicly about a prolonged health struggle.

In July 2025, the actor disclosed that he had battled chronic ulcer for seven years, describing the experience as a serious challenge to his wellbeing.

The current claim concerning his reported Stage 4 cancer diagnosis has not been independently confirmed by a medical institution in the available reports.

The family’s appeal, however, indicates that Hassan is facing a significant health challenge and that his relatives are exploring additional avenues of care.

The request for traditional treatment also highlights the varied approaches families sometimes consider when dealing with serious illnesses in Nigeria.

Medical specialists generally advise patients to discuss any complementary or traditional treatment with qualified healthcare professionals, particularly where cancer treatment is concerned, to avoid interactions, delays or other risks.

For now, the family’s immediate concern appears to be finding additional help for the veteran actor.

Senator Yayi’s involvement has also drawn attention because of his longstanding relationship with Hassan.

In 2023, Hassan publicly celebrated Adeola, while the senator has previously marked the actor’s birthday and publicly shown support for him.

As the appeal circulates, Hassan’s daughter is asking people with potentially useful treatment options and expertise to come forward, stressing that the family would welcome assistance beyond financial contributions.
