BREAKING: 8 Gateway ICT Polytechnic students abducted in Ogun

Eight students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), Ogun State, were reportedly abducted on Wednesday night, July 29, 2026, after armed gunmen invaded their residence in Ipara, Remo North Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which occurred around 9 p.m., triggered panic among students and residents of the community, with the institution announcing the suspension of scheduled examinations due to the security situation.

The reported Ogun Abduction incident involved students living in a private residence near the polytechnic, where the attackers allegedly stormed the area before taking the students away.

Following the development, Gateway ICT Polytechnic management cancelled the computer-based tests and written examinations scheduled for Thursday, July 30.

In a notice released to students, the institution said the decision was taken because of the security concerns arising from the incident.

“Following the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, today’s examination has been cancelled,” the statement read.

The school, however, stated that examinations scheduled for the following day would continue unless a further announcement was made.

“For now, all students are encouraged to remain calm, stay positive, and continue preparing for their examinations. We are hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon,” the management added.

The abduction has heightened concerns over the safety of students and residents in parts of Ogun State, particularly communities around Remo North that have experienced security challenges in recent times.

Authorities have yet to provide details on the identity of the attackers or the current status of the abducted students. Security agencies are expected to intensify efforts to locate and rescue the victims.

The latest incident adds to ongoing concerns about kidnapping and criminal activities affecting communities across Nigeria, with schools and higher institutions increasingly calling for stronger security measures to protect students and staff.
