Five killed, 10 injured in Ogun expressway crash

FRSC confirms multiple deaths and injuries after a speeding bus crashed along the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway.

Ogun expressway crash leaves five dead and 10 injured after a speeding and overloaded bus accident along Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway

Five persons, including two children, have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident along the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway in Ogun State.

The fatal Ogun expressway crash occurred on Thursday morning at Iyana Egbado and involved a white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC carrying 20 passengers.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed that the lone accident happened at about 11:12 a.m.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Odunsi Afolabi, the passengers included six adult males, eleven adult females, one male child and two female children.

Afolabi disclosed that five people lost their lives in the devastating crash, including one adult male, two adult females, one male child and one female child.

Ten other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, while five escaped unhurt.

“The crash occurred at about 11:12 am and was reported at 1115HRS. FRSC rescue operatives from RS2.28 Itori Unit Command arrived at the scene at 1120HRS, with a response time of five minutes,” Afolabi stated.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC linked the accident to excessive speeding and overloading.

The injured victims were immediately taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and Oreofe Specialist Hospital, Itori, for urgent medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.

Reacting to the heartbreaking incident, Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and urged motorists to avoid dangerous driving practices.

Ogunjobi also stressed the importance of obeying traffic regulations, particularly during the festive season, describing road safety as a collective responsibility.
